We honor the ancestral recipe by using the highest quality, imported culinary Moroccan Argan Oil, paired with local Canadian honey (or natural dates for vegan options) and the best internationally sourced nuts.
Argan Oil is a rare and precious oil extracted from the kernels of the Argan tree, which is native only to Morocco. We use the culinary-grade oil, which is lightly toasted to give it a signature nutty, slightly earthy flavor. It is a cornerstone of the traditional Berber Amlou recipe and provides significant health benefits, including powerful antioxidants, making it a unique and vital ingredient.
Roots Treasures Amlou is shelf-stable and should be stored in a cool, dark place like a pantry cupboard. Refrigeration is not necessary. Due to the natural ingredients and absence of stabilizers, oil separation is natural—simply stir well before enjoying! For best freshness, we recommend consuming the Amlou within 3 months of opening.
We offer Amlou varieties that fit several dietary needs:
– Vegan: We offer a dedicated Vegan Almond Amlou that is sweetened exclusively with natural dates, making it 100% plant-based and refined sugar-free.
– Keto/Low Carb: While not strictly Keto, our traditional Amlou blends are lower in carbohydrates compared to commercial jams and syrups.
Important Dietary Disclaimer Regarding Gluten:
The ingredients used in our Amlou (nuts, Argan oil, honey/dates) are naturally gluten-free. However, Roots Treasures Amlou is prepared in a shared commercial kitchen facility that also processes products containing wheat and other gluten sources. Therefore, we cannot guarantee zero cross-contamination.
Customers with severe Celiac Disease or high gluten sensitivities should exercise caution. Please check the specific product label for detailed ingredient lists and allergen warnings.
While similar in texture, Amlou is a different, more complex spread. The defining difference is the inclusion of culinary Argan Oil and honey (or dates), which gives it a unique, deeper flavor profile—less sweet and more aromatic than standard nut butters. It’s also often richer in Vitamin E and antioxidants due to the Argan oil.
Due to the perishable nature of our artisanal food product, and for reasons of hygiene and food safety, we cannot accept returns or exchanges for Amlou that has been opened or consumed.
However, your satisfaction is our priority. We offer a Quality Guarantee for our customers in Canada:
Damaged or Defective Product: If your Amlou arrives damaged, leaking, or if you encounter any quality issues or manufacturing defects (e.g., jar seal broken, visible mold upon receipt), please contact us within 48 hours of delivery with your order number and clear photos of the defect.
Resolution: Upon verification, we will happily provide you with a full store credit or a replacement product for the affected jar. We are committed to making it right!
